Overview
The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering houses a number of domestically and intenationally recognized research groups. The associated research laboratories provide exciting opportunities for current and prospective graduate students to excel in their research area of interest. The department's research laboratories are equipped with an annual funding level of nearly $5 million, allowing for graduate student support and acquisition of cutting-edge research equipment.

This collaborative effort between WPI and a diverse team of scientists, engineers, and physicians across the globe focuses on the study of natural body tissue to aid in the improvement of powered artificial limbs.
Wireless Networking and Location for Untethered Health Care
Funded by the Army Telemedicine and Advanced Technology Research Center (TATRC), the objective of this multidisciplinary project involving bioengineering, ultrasound, and wireless technologies is to develop the wireless protocols and signals that will permit sensor data and ultrasound images to be transmitted reliably in the unforgiving environment of the urban battleground.
Precision Personnel Locator System
The U.S. Department of Justice is funding WPI to develop law enforcement and first responder technologies to alleviate the problem of emergency personnel becoming lost inside of a building.
