Welcome
Laboratory for Enabling Technologies in Medical Ultrasound
The mission of the Ultrasound Research Lab is to enable a wider use of medical ultrasound so that it can be used by medical personnel with modest training. To that end, we are implementing a mobile, rugged ultrasound imaging system, augmented with an exam camera and physiological sensors, and with the ability to wirelessly stream ultrasound and visual images as well as voice.
The Ultrasound Research Lab is developing a low-cost tool for training clinicians in medical ultrasound imaging. A manikin (as seen to the right) is scanned, which produces an image corresponding to the position and orientation of the sham transducer.
To make the ultrasound image easier to interpret, we are developing image analysis algorithms, to aid the interpretation of the image for trauma situations. Separately, we have ongoing research in elastography and in atherosclerotic plaque classification.
We invite you to explore this Web site and learn about the ongoing research activities.
